I am unsure whether to go for the dell streak 5/7, the samsung galaxy tab or another tablet?

I will be getting it on a 18 month contract (or 24 if the cost is more than £25 a month).

I dont need calls, just 1gb of data per month (but some free texts would be nice).

I wouldn't mind a Dell Streak 5 myself, though I haven't used one yet.
I had the original Samsung Galaxy Tab last year. I quite liked it, but I found the antenna was lacking - in places where my phones got 3G or at least good EDGE, I found the Galaxy occasionally struggling...
On the plus side - battery life was excellent. Better than my Galaxy S before. And I never encountered any lag. The UI had some nifty features too - the musicplayer especially was top notch featurewise. You have read some of my posts here - I'm neither a tab- nor a Samsung-fan, but the Galaxy was better than many folks say imho. Maybe too expensive upon launch, but I think the price has come down?!

I very nearly ordered a Streak 5 yesterday. I was going to get a Nokia E7, but last minute I changed my mind - I do not like phones without an SD-slot. No matter how much I'd love the E7, I'm b*mmed now LOL

So I see your still on the hunt for a mobile (also)... 8)

I could also go for the ipad2 as well but likewise I dont want to be limited by not having a memory card expansion slot.

I only ever used the iPad for 10 minutes. They are nice, and I'm glad I mainly use Ubuntu - so no iTunes for me, and no temptation :))
Almost all of the new tabs seem to lack something. No SD or no email client (RIM lol wtf?) or proprietary connectors, or old Android versions.... Come on, hp - bring on webOS 3 :(

Yeah and whats dell playing at with their crappy display on the 'new' streak 7? oO

Anyway, I like the way the SG Tab has an attachable keyboard.. that could clinch the deal (ok and getting it for £15 a month on a 24 month contract renewal with o2).

Most (if not all) of the Android Tablets can have a keyboard plugged in. Standard PC USB job will work just fine.
I love the size of the Galaxy Tab bu i think i'd baulk at getting one on contract.
There's a new tablet on the block, by Kogan that purports to sport the same processor as the Samsung, have a capacitive screen etc and cost less than £100. I'd be tempted if I didn't already have my HSG X5A :):):)

I think the ipad rules them all. Its userfriendly interface is still unbeaten. If youre not idealist or cheap and you really want to work with your tablet, I think you gotta go for an ipad. Here it says something about the Dell Streak 7", but its still not as good.

I had a dell streak 5 and was using it as my main phone. Which to be fair it is a bit big for. But I did like it. However, it is the most delicate phone i have ever owned, it fell from y lap onto the ground outside my car and the screen smashed. not what you want if you are a bit careless.

Yeah but the iPad is just not customisable enough for me.

Besides, I am on a budget so for now iPad2 is not an option (I can get it on my contract but its wifi only so no good).

yeah thats something a friend and I have discussed often when choosing between the SG Tab or the Dell Streak 5. Dell has more (erm, shall we say 'hackability) but cheap build quality. Whereas Samsung has superior build quality but poor support in the 'aforementioned' sense.

mjmeff LOL
I think that is Apple's new slogan? "not for idealists" (...but gets the Jobs done ;) )

don't shoot the messenger :p
actually, I think after all this I might get a used iPad and wait until hp release the Palm Pre 3

The streak is great but very very fragile. I'd say odds are you'll drop it and break it within a few months, most people seem to (yes me too). £120ish to get it repaired in the uk, factor a few of these in ;)

thanks but i ended up getting a SG Tab in the end. Very happy with it as well.
