Virgin Media launches Android app for remote recording

Virgin Media launches Android app for remote recordingVirgin Media has launched a new app for Android, TV Guide, allowing users to check TV listings and, for customers with a TiVo box, record programs remotely.

The TV Guide app makes its debut on the Android Market, though a version for iPhone and iPad peeps is “coming soon” to the App Store.

The app allows Virgin Media customers to see TV listings by package (M, L or XL) for the next seven days, and set single episodes or entire series to record.

“We think Virgin Media’s TiVo Service is the best way to watch TV and our new mobile app enhances that experience by ensuring you’ll never miss recording a programme whilst out and about,” says Virgin Media’s Alex Green, executive director of commercial TV & online.

“Our TiVo service already offers the most flexible and comprehensive recording options and features, which this new service complements.”

The TV Guide app is entirely free, but requires Android 2.1 (Eclair) or above. iDevices will need iOS 4.

TiVo is awesome but I think the app still needs some work.Remote record still works fine through their site.

ugh, why couldnt they let it work with the v+ box, i would certainly get it then and actually be able to use it! I keep needing this feature recently (i believe sky can?) cant justify paying for tivo box and then a service subscription so i guess ill have to wait indefinitely

Pity it only supports the TiVo boxes... I've got one of the V+HD ones!

Damn! I've got the V+HD box too!
It's like everything though: offer new support & functionality on just your company's latest products to tempt in new customers/upgrade!! I suppose doing it this way will a) minimise costs for not backward-supporting everything, and b) as mentioned, keep the newest products nice and shiny for all to see!!

I don't think I'd personally use this function much to be honest,
and I've got no problem with Virgin, they reward their current customers too - I saw the new Transformers film a day before it came out for free thanks to Virgin!! Woop woop :D!

TiVo is worth every penny. The guide, search options, YouTube and backward search is excellent. I believe the reason V+ doesn't support this is because it doesn't have a dedicated broadband connection like TiVo does.
