Virtual disposable phone numbers

I'm not sure if I am using the correct terminology here, but I would like to be able to give some people a disposable phone number which gets routed through to my real number. this is for people who I don't want to have my real phone number.if they abuse the privilege of having my number I want to be able to discontinue the virtual number without it affecting my real number. I am looking for a service which will not cost the people calling me any more than if they were calling my real number.

Thanks peeps!

Buy a prepay-sim. Use it once and enable call forward to your real number.
That'll work, but your network will charge you for every forwarded call.
Never heard of online services that offer that feature, but who knows...

Google Voice does it in US only.

Problem is that UK and European phone systems charge exorbitant rates for phone calls. Makes it impossible to have a free call.

buy a Sim on Orange and take up their service called Pocket Landline. This will assign a landline number to your mobile which you can give out the landline number out and if it is abused just remove the pocket landline service.

This will not affect your original mobile number

Have a look at http://www.numbercloak.com/index.php

Calls to this service are very expensive !!!

You can buy a number from Skype or any VOIP provider and then fwd it to your mobile or landline. It's quite cheap if you fwd to your landline but you will pay something for each call.

Had this service in Korea for years, free and works very well. I've got up to 5 numbers on the go at any one time! Can even select your number too.

couldnt you just use a skype-in number to call skype on your mobile. would be free incoming and cost the same as a normal call.

Skype is not free. There is a subscription for landlines, which makes it pretty cheap. For mobiles you have to pay per minute and every forwarded or skype-in call charged at rate where it's forwarded. Effectively you are paying double unless you use Skype over 3G.

Try http://www.losemynumber.co.uk
I think this is what you are looking for. You can instantly create a temporary number for your mobile - which diverts to your current phone - to hand out to strangers, safe in the knowledge they don't know what your actual number is and if they turn out to be odd-balls you merely shut down that number, create a fresh one and hand that out to your next new dates or friends. I hope this helps?
