A few weeks ago Vodafone announced its 555 featurephone. It's now on sale, and the big selling point - Vodafone hopes - is the dedicated Facebook button integrated into the QWERTY keyboard.
Of course, the Vodafone 555 isn’t the only phone on the market with a dedicated Facebook button, but it’s certainly the cheapest.
HTC announced its Facebook phones – the Salsa and ChaCha – back at Mobile World Congress in February. They too have dedicated Facebook buttons, but are significantly more expensive.
Vodafone is punting the 555 at £62.50. Meanwhile, the HTC ChaCha will set you back somewhere in the region of £200.
The Vodafone 555 keeps its cost down by adopting a modest 2MP camera, and has just 40MB internal storage. On the plus side, it packs an impressive 800MHz processor. EDIT: further investigation suggests that's a typo on the Vodafone site. The Vodafone 555 has a, uhm, 200MHz processor.
Will teens be tempted by the Vodafone 555 when they can grab a decent Android-based smartphone for a few quid more? Time will tell…
