Got a used vodafone dongle, cant get it working!

I got a used vodafone dongle that came with a sim already in it. However, I wanted to use my PAYG sim [as it still has plenty of credit on it]. I cant seem to get it going. Is this because you cant use a PAYG sim card in it?

I guess - at least here in Ireland it won't work. But check apn and dialing rules in network manager. In Ireland vf's prepay sims use live!-/wap ap by default. For bb it's internet, obviously. I SUPPOSE it's similar in UK?

Some Vodafone mobile broadband devices are not only locked to Vodafone, but also to contract only SIM cards. Unlocking the modem will enable it to work with a PAYG SIM. Also as the previous posted mentioned you need to use the correct APN settings for Vodafone PAYG SIM, try for here for UK APN and Here for the international APNs

I realise this is an old post, but it might help someone

Thanks Josh,
But the dongle wont even work now - Windows wont detect it (i.e. via the USB port)!

Have you got the right drivers?
I've had a lot of problems in the past with Vf and Three dongles here in Ireland. Turned out in all cases the drivers were just rubbish. The dashboard app would load, but the dongle was never properly connecting.
Do you have access to an Ubuntu install or an Ubuntu live disk? Ubuntu doesn't need the software an win-specific drivers. The
dongle should work without much fuss.

No its not that, the dongle was working fine previously. I put away since I moved house and only just got it out of its drawer.

I tried it on three different PCs (one at work). It just doesn't detect it, at all.
