I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: wrestling is the world’s greatest art form, deftly combining comedy, drama, romance, athleticism, and ultimately men in pants pretending to fight. It’s brilliant.
Alas, the launch of the UK WWE Network – the online service with a head-spinning volume of content – has been nothing short of a farce, being mysteriously pulled last week just minutes before it was supposed to go live. Worse still, there are rumours it’ll be a Sky channel over here, perhaps akin to the limited Canadian service offered through Rogers. Bleurgh.
But fear not! Here I’m detailing how to watch the WWE Network - the full service - on your UK iPad or iPhone, in three simple steps.
Step 1. Acquire your alternative DNS addresses
As I was saying last week in Watch US Netflix on your UK iPad or iPhone, there are free DNS addresses out there that’ll work for a while at least, but they’re prone to changing – obviously without notice – and as such completely unreliable.
We’d recommend signing up for a service like Unblock Us, which comes in at $4.99 per month, with customer support and a whole ton of user guides.
Alternative DNS addresses acquired, just tap Settings > Wi-Fi > your network name > and enter the numbers into the DNS field. For Unblock Us, it’d be 126.96.36.199 and 188.8.131.52 separated by a comma and space.
Step 2. Sign up for a WWE Network account
Anyone can sign up for a WWE Network account, though you’ll have to be in North America – or appear to be in North America – to actually watch it.
With those DNS addresses changed, signing up should be a relatively simple process, though note that you’ll need to provide a fake US address with a valid US ZIP code. A favourite in the UK is 90210 (it's a similar process for creating a US PSN account, for example), but anything will work – so long as the ZIP is valid.
For payment details I've used my PayPal account, which has a UK billing address, but Vince doesn't seem to mind. Likewise, a UK card should be acceptable, too. The monthly price - as if you had to ask - is $9.99, and there's no obligation beyond the rolling monthly thingamajig.
If you don’t have it already, download the free WWE app. There’s no separate app for the WWE Network; instead it’s hidden away in a sub-menu thingy. Just tap the three lines in the top left, hit WWE Network, sign in, and you should see the main menu, with what’s On Now, Up Next, and a whole host of other content including pay per views, the weekly NXT show, WWE Main Event, original programming including Top 10s, and old episodes of WCW Nitro. Excellent.
Unblock Us has a free 7-day trial, and the WWE Network is free for the rest of the month, so technically you could stream Survivor Series 2014, on November 23, for free. Lovely!
