Water damage indicator / warranty obligations

Can a manufacturer use the water damage indicator to get out of warranty obligations, even if the phone is clearly not actually water damaged?

If the water damage indicator says your phone has got wet then yes, your warranty is void I'm afraid. Even if there is no obvious water dripping out of the chargin socket, if its been wet then the internals will start to corrode. Its new phone time / insurance job for you I'm afraid.
