What’s a bolt-on and what’s a tariff?

I’m quite new to contracts cos I used to be PAYG. What’s a bolt-on and what’s a tariff? Do I need to have any bolt-ons, or will my phone work without them?

first of all

the tariff: is the agreed amount of texts/internet/calls at an agreed amount, e.g 500mins 5000texts 500mb data £15 per month for anything upto 2 years

bolt on: is normally about £5 per month and is only contracted normally for 30 days and this is basicly optional extras on top of your tariff, e.g an extra 5000mb data date for an additional fee (normally around the £5 mark)

hope that helps

My blackberry won't let me on the internet, so why is it called 3G? And it won't let me connect to wi-fi systems either! Can someone help?

That statement tells me that you are a newbie to the whole smartphone-thing, right? (Don't take offence please - nothing wrong with being a "newbie" and trying to get help :) )

1) Your BB doesn't need 3G to go on the internet

2) we'll need more info to help you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it a new BB? Did you buy it from a network? Did you buy a BB data add-on?
Did your network activate your BB? Is the phone-side of things working?
When you inserted your SIM into your BB, did you get a few mesages from BB - such as "your device is registered" etc????

Unforunately, there are many factors that can get in the way of having fun with a BB (any smartphone).
To figure out what your particular problem is 'we' will need more info ;)

So do you have to pay for your tariff first, then pay for your bolt on, that is, if you want it? You can't just pay for the bolt on, and only get that, each month.
