What’s the difference between data and 3G on the HTC 7 Mozart?

I have the option to turn off both 3G and data on my HTC 7 Mozart. What’s the difference? I thought 3G was data!

Data is data. Switching off data will kill all data to your phone.
3G is just the data "turbo" on your phone. 3G = fast data. You do NOT need 3G to collect a few email now and again. And when you're in an area without 3G signal, you're better of switching off 3G - in fact, only enable 3G for video streaming or VOIP etc... 3G is probably the biggest battery sucker right after a big bright touchscreen.
For voice calls, sms, mms, the occasional email and browsing with Opera Mini you do not need 3G.

Oops, I noticed I mentioned Opera Mini above. It's obviously not available for WP7, but even so: checking the news or your FB shouldn't require 3G either. ...
If, however, you're constantly near a wall socket and have perfect 3G coverage, no reason to disable 3G.

Oh I understand now, I didn't get the differences. Thank you jan!
