I have two young teenagers desperate for phones. What do you think is the youngest that someone should have a phone? Opinions please.

I'll be honest: there are days when I wish I had never tried a phone.
But then again: my generation (and up) has created a lot of major problems that your kids will have to solve or suffer from.
That dilemma seriously twists my head.
Can we advice them on tech, while they cannot drink our tapwater without applying for a liver and kidney transplant first?
Those kids have a billion dollar ad industry against them that 'we' finance...
I don't know what to say. Sorry

Any age is fine, there is no limit. It's more about parents staying in touch with their kids. I'm sure you would be calling your youngsters, if they have a phone. As long as phone is used responsibly any age would be good. I'm assuming phones would be used for texting and Facebook. Prepaid seems a better option as they cannot run up a bill. It would also teach them to take care of things - no replacement if lost and no new one if broken.

I agree with CTPAHHIK, but make sure you start off with VERY cheap phones, then gradually move them on to the better stuff if they become more trustworthy with their devices. Expect breakages and losses at the early ages, but that should improve. It may be annoying but being able to keep in contact with them could be a great benefit especially when arranging to meet them for example.
