Whats a MIME attachment in iPhone email?

I've received a MIME attachment on my iPhone. What the hells a MIME attachment and is there any way to open it?!? It's from a solicitor so I'm quite sure its not a virus lol.

I have a gmail account with Samsung Android phone and my daughter who has hotmail with iphone is trying to send me pictures that come through as "mime-attachment" that I cannot open. How do I open these attachments?

iT'S NOT AN ATTACHMENT YOU SHOULD SEE.
If/when you see a mime attachment (or.DAT in windows) it means the real attachment got damaged enroute.... Just ignore. Ask the sender to resend the attchment

PS: check on a PC or another phone, also: happened to me that one device receives correct attachment, another one gets mime

It's on iOS bug.
MIME is Multipurpose Internet Mail Extension, basically just a standard that allows sending anything other than plain text over email.

If you get it sent to a webmail account (something like Gmail) it will work fine. If you already use something like Gmail and are using IMAP to your iPhone then just open it in the browser and it will work.
