It's a day we thought would never come. Official confirmation has arrived that the fabled white iPhone 4 is finally... finally... on its way to launching.
And this doesn't come from leaked quotes from unnamed sources or speculation from an Apple fan blog – we have hard quotes from Apple's own Phil Schiller confirming that the phone we thought would never arrive is real, and coming in the Spring.
We've had no end of will-it-won't-it speculation over the white iPhone 4. It was set to be part of the iPhone range all along, but undisclosed issues stopped it from ever arriving when its black counterpart went on sale last year.
There has been widespread speculation for a while that Apple had solved the mystery manufacturing woes and was considering a Spring-time launch, but many – ourselves included, if we're honest – said that would never happen so close to the iPhone 5's likely June arrival.
Step in Apple senior VP Schiller to settle the argument with one single tweet. Responding to a query, Schiller confirmed: “the white iPhone will be available this spring (and it is a beauty!)”
This confirms reports we heard last week that the whiPhone is already in production. We won't read any more into Schiller's comments that it's a “beauty” than simply saying it's the same iPhone 4 we know and love, only in white. Although we're sure some Apple fan sites will now be speculating on the possibility of new design features.
So there you have it – one of the great mysteries of our time looks to be wrapping up. Now if Schiller could just let us know when we'll be seeing the Loch Ness monster...
