There doesn't seem to be much choice at the moment! Are manufacturers waiting for Mango or something?

I guess you're on to something. The first batch flopped, and the current OS state allows manufacturers little 'play' to differentiate their devices... mango will hopefully change that.
By flop I mean: you can buy the LG Optimus 7 in Germany for 149 Euro...from 390 in October ...
I mention the LG because LG is actually struggling right now. But other WP7 devices have also lost record value since launch. I recently traded a Palm Pre 2 for a new Barnes&Noble Nook Color AND a brandnew HTC Trophy 7!!!

With the heavy discounting on the current batch of phones out there I'd dout the manufacturers will hurry to spent more development money before mango. Even Nokia seem to be back tracking as its (reported to be) not closing the Symbion [email protected] (Sent to outsouce) and Meego [email protected] with QT sound like its going to be put on the Nokia "Feature phone" product lines (90% of the phone Nokia sell)
