Just reading about the 'Xbox Surface' and wondering ... are any of the current Windows 8 tablets able to handle high-end gaming?

Kinda pushing the limits of what is possible here - a tablet is expected to be reasonably thin and light with decent battery life. Packing in a GPU will make it thicker, heavier and will vastly reduce the battery life. You might see one in the hybrid form factor (e.g. a touchscreen laptop with a swivelling screen), but I wouldn't expect it to be all that portable.
There are some tablets coming with desktop docks that contain an external GPU. Other than that, tablets powered by AMD chips are going to be your best bet (there's a few due out later this year/early next year). Difficult to hold much confidence with battery life on those though.
