Well, it’s been a heck of a time for early backers of Microsoft’s Windows Phone. First they find out they’re not getting Windows Phone 8 (despite hints to the contrary), then the consolation prize, Windows Phone 7.8, takes forever to materialise.
However, there’s light at the end of the tunnel, as O2 has suggested that Windows Phone 7.8 will be here by the end of the month.
The news comes via O2’s official twitter feed. In response to one particular follower asking about the Nokia Lumia 710, O2 tweets: “Hi there, the 7.8 Windows Phone update will be released by the end of January and will be available via Zune.”
Indeed, browsing through the twitter feed, that seems to be the stock answer from O2 for all Windows Phone 7.5 handsets.
As is always the case with these social networking thingies, we can’t be certain if the man (or lady) behind the keys is privy to some top secret information, or if it’s simply some overzealous Windows Phone fan.
As far as Microsoft is concerned, the Windows Phone 7.8 release date is still penned for a vague “early 2013”, which could be “by the end of January”, but could also be the end of March. Just saying.
