Course the US market is a very odd one.
And their share is still negligible, despite impressive price cuts

True...As I said elsewhere - maybe it's simply a matter of too-late?
I genuinely believe WP has improved more than any other platform in the past 12 months.
And the Lumias aren't bad and, as you said, prices have come down....
Maybe the desired "3rd platform" position puts WP in that 3rd position that Ubuntu/Linux are for PCs? Not "Irrelevant" but destined for a niche?

Well it had the lowest starting point to improve from....

And I only know two people with Lumias and they both broke within 6 months, one of them twice...

I thought there were more linux/ubuntu pcs than ios ones, but as that entire market is on the skids...

No, thanks to US market, OS X is a lot more popular than Linux distros (talking enduser desktops...)...

Sure, WP came from nowhere, so it could only improve.
Interesting re your friends' broken Lumias. Anything in particular?
I mentioned my colleague's 1020, didn't I? Damaged sim-tray - 8-12 weeks to get a part!!!!
(you can get the tray, but not the port!)... Bad.
