I'm thinking there's no need for a 3G iPad (an extra £100!!!!) since I can use tethering on my phone. Am I right, or am I being naive? Just wanted some advice before I shell out £400 Thanks!

Well, if you're on a network that allows tethering, no.
The only thing is: I find reception on my better half's iPad is superior to most phones.
But if your happy with your phone's speeds in the locations you usually hang out in, then: save the money. £100 buys you a lot of data
