WSJ: Amazon smartphone in testing

WSJ: Amazon smartphone in testingAmazon continues to receive an abundance of attention from the rumour mill, particularly with regards to new hardware. We’ve been hearing lots of talk of late about a presumably imminent Amazon Kindle Fire 2.

But don’t forget the Amazon smartphone. The latest whispers suggest the device has reached the testing phase. ‘Citing.

Last week we had Bloomberg’s sources suggesting that the Amazon smartphone was nearing production, with the Amazonians seeking out mobile patents, and now The Wall Street Journal’s sources are chiming in.

According to “officials at some of Amazon's parts suppliers, who declined to be named”, the Amazon smartphone is in testing with a view to being released late this year, or early next year.

As for Amazon smartphone specs, the only detail we have at this early stage is that the display weighs in at “between four and five inches.”

It’s also thought that the Amazon smartphone will follow in the Amazon Kindle Fire’s footsteps, with a focus on Amazon-related content.

Wow it's practically on sale with such strong sources that they called on.

Still seems an odd direction for them to go in.

I agree, they make all their money from content so I can't see the benefit from having a smartphone other than maybe making the focus of it being being able to access amazon content while on the road

In my wildest dreams I would love to see amazon coming out with some kind of portable media beast, like a phone that has a foldable touchscreen and/or a powerful projector so you can enjoy the paid content whilst out and about
