Xbox SmartGlass landing this week

Xbox SmartGlass landing this weekHave we mentioned Xbox SmartGlass here on Mobot previously? Ah yes, back in June when all the E3 stuff was going down.

Xbox SmartGlass, essentially a companion app for the Xbox 360, will land this very week, alongside Windows 8. It looks rather nice, actually.

And what the heck is Xbox SmartGlass? Well, it’s somewhat of an extension of the My Xbox Live idea – the app that allows you to control your Xbox with your smartphone or tablet.

I’ll hand you over to Microsoft for a concise description. Check it: “Xbox SmartGlass turns your mobile phone or tablet into a second screen that intelligently interacts with your Xbox 360 to elevate your entertainment experience.

“Xbox SmartGlass allows for your devices and TV to talk to each other to enhance your favorite TV shows, movies, music, sports and games.”

Examples we’re shown include some chick watching Game of Thrones while reading a bunch of stuff about it on a tablet, some dude playing a game while his mate checks out the dungeon map on his smartphone, and shared browsing between Xbox and mobile devices.

Release dates? Xbox SmartGlass will land with Windows 8 on Friday (October 26), and Windows Phone 8 on Monday (October 29). An iOS and Android version will follow in 2013.

In the meantime, check out Introducing Xbox SmartGlass and this accompanying YouTube video for more info.

Nice that they are letting the few wp8 and w8rt owners beta test it before it gets a proper release next year.
