Xiaomi is a name we haven’t mentioned a great deal on our hallowed pages, but it’s actually one of the fastest growing mobile manufacturers in China, and recently snapped up the services of former Android VP, Hugo Barra.
No stranger to flash sales, Xiaomi has reportedly notched up an astounding 200,000 smartphone sales in just under three minutes. What the…?
That’s the story over on Tech In Asia, with the sales taking place on China’s Singles Day (kinda the opposite of Valentine’s Day), a traditionally busy occasion for sales.
The Chinese manufacturer put some 330,000 smartphones on its Tmall page, in addition to 50,000 set top boxes, and within three minutes it had shifted 200,000 smartphones, bringing in over $17.5 million in sales revenue.
Making up around a third of those 330,000 smartphones was the Xiaomi Mi-3, which Martin wrote about back in September. It was billed as the "fastest smartphone ever”, with a price tag of just £210. Indeed, it was completely sold out within that three-minute period.
Xiaomi Mi-3 specs include a 5in 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 or Tegra 4 processor (depending on network), a 13MP rear camera, and Jelly Bean Android 4.whatever.
This marks only the second time we’ve mentioned Xiaomi, but with many tipping the Chinese manufacturer to become “the next Apple” (whatever that means), it’s worth learning how to spell. Xiaomi. Xiaomi. Xiaomi….
