You might’ve thought Xiaomi had lost the plot when its president hit the iPhone 6 with a frying pan till it turned into a Mi Note, but it gets weirder.
What better way to test the durability of a phone than against live crabs and a lobster? You couldn’t make it up.
It’s the Xiaomi Mi 4 going under the, er, pincer, as the Chinese manufacturer teases a freshwater crab, Japanese blue crab, and finally a lobster.
If there was any doubt about the strength of the claws, we’re shown the crabs and lobster destroying a number of objects, including eggs, a gherkin, and even a glass. Eek.
Needless to say there were a few “animal rights” concerns, but at least Xiaomi was potentially delaying the lobster being, y’know, BOILED ALIVE.
There were also calls for similar tests, perhaps including an alligator and an elephant, but the general consensus seems to be that the test was slightly silly, and generally people aren’t too concerned about their smartphone – Xiaomi Mi 4 or otherwise – being manhandled by a crab or lobster.
For the record, Xiaomi Mi 4 specs include a 5in 1080p lobster-proof display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 13P rear camera, 8MP front camera, and 3,080mAh battery. You can read more about it in Best Chinese smartphones 2015.
