Chinese manufacturer and world’s number 3 smartphone player Xiaomi is holding a launch event on January 15, this Thursday, and it’s still a mystery what we’ll meet.
This latest teaser – in the form a word search (seriously) – suggests it’ll be the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2. But what about the Xiaomi Mi5 flagship?
A promo pic for this Thursday's Xiaomi launch event yells “HELLO” (for some reason) before inviting fans to find words in the aforementioned word search.
Key words include BIGGER, SOUND, NEW, GLASS, MONEY, LIGHTER, LARGE, OIS, NOTE and FASTER. All of which suggests we’re looking at a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 that’s bigger, louder and faster than the first, while also being lighter and throwing in OIS (optical image stabilisation).
Rumoured Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 specs include a 5.7in 1080p display, 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 or MediaTek MT6752 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB and/or 32GB expandable storage, 13MP/5MP rear/front cameras, KitKat Android 4.4, and a big meaty 3,100mAh battery. Sounds good to us.
That still leaves a question mark over the much-discussed Xiaomi Mi5 flagship, successor to the popular Mi4. An accompanying teaser image shows a pair of hands, which loosely suggests we might meet two new phones, but we’re thinking it’s still probably a little early since the Mi4 itself is only a few months old. Never say never though.
Come to think of it, the word search arguably says NOTES plural, so we could meet more than one version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, perhaps the rumoured 5.2in model. Hmm.
In any case, we’ll bring you the full story from the Xiaomi launch event on Thursday, almost certainly including the Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, and possibly more.
