Well whaddya know? The Ukraine isn’t the only country being invaded by Mother Russia this month.
Fortunately, for now at least, Russia’s advance into the UK takes the form of not soldiers or tanks, but the long-awaited YotaPhone, with its electronic ink display on the back. Welcome!
First announced back in 2012, the YotaPhone is finally available to buy from the YotaPhone website, and carries a price tag of £419 SIM free. Of course, you’ll be able to use the phone on any UK network.
The standout feature is of course the always-on second display on the back, which - among other things - allows users to check notifications without lighting up the power-hungry front display.
"The typical user picks up and activates their smartphone more than 150 times a day," yells Vlad Martynov, CEO of Yota Devices. "Why? Because users worry that messages or information they need or want are hidden behind their phone’s black screen. This is a huge distraction and can impede meaningful interaction with our friends, families and colleagues."
The displays measure 4.3in each, and other notable YotaPhone specs include a 1.7.GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 2GB of RAM, Jelly Bean Android 4.2.2, and an 1,800mAh battery.
Fancy it? It’s certainly an interesting concept, but be aware that the YotaPhone 2 was shown off at Mobile World Congress (MWC) last month. It’s expected to arrive later this year.
