Which is lucky for me, because next on the app review pile is Zombie Gunship, a game that features tons of zombies and also a, uhm, gunship. Who’d have thunk it?
We’ve had no shortage of zombie smartphone games here on Mobot, though Zombie Gunship is a million miles away from Plants vs. Zombies 2, Zombie Dash, and Minigore 2: Zombies, with the action here being presented in night vision from the relative safety of the sky.
The aim in Zombie Gunship is twofold. Firstly, stop the zombies from breaching your base. If one gets in, it’s Game Over. Simple.
There are also civilians headed towards the base, and occasionally it’s necessary to snipe a zombie in order to save a human in distress. Incidentally, if you happen to kill a lot of civvies (three by default), the eponymous gunship will pull out since you’re doing “more harm than good”.
And that’s pretty much all there is to Zombie Gunship in terms of gameplay, with the only notable change being that the HSAS (Human Sequestration Advisory System) will intermittently instruct humans to hide, which means you’re free to tear it up without fear of collateral damage.
Of course, Zombie Gunship features the obligatory shop system. Shooting zombies nets you coins to invest in upgrades, which ultimately help you kill more zombies and get more coins to invest in more upgrades.
Specifically, you can pump money into three different guns, enhancing their damage radius, cooling time, firing rate and bullet speed.
You can also invest in Zombie Bounty, which gives more money per head (ahem), and Radar Upgrade (does what it says on the tin).
Finally there are a couple of consumables in the form of Bomb Buddy, which automatically defends your gate if there’s an imminent breach, and General Pardon, which permits a further three civilian kills with each use.
You can expect to blast through Zombie Gunship in a couple of hours, with only three different levels available, though chances are you’ll probably want to keep mowing down zombies even once you’ve seen everything there is to see; it’s pretty good. Not amazing, but good.
- The night vision thing is kinda nice
- A decent amount of stuff to invest in
- Pretty short
- Pretty samey
- Only three locations
Summary: Zombie Gunship invites you to shoot zombies from a gunship. Fun.
