ZTE Grand X dropping next month

ZTE Grand X dropping next monthLast week, ZTE teased us with the promise of an “advanced gaming smartphone”, and yours truly predicted that it might be the ZTE Grand X - officially unveiled back in June.

I hate to say I told you so, but it turns out the Chinese manufacturer was indeed talking about the – you guessed it – ZTE Grand X. Boom!

We're not entirely sure what makes the smartphone particularly great for gaming, but ZTE Grand X specs include a 4.3in qHD LCD touch display, dual-core Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1GHz, 512MB of RAM, and a 5MP/0.3MP rear/front camera combo.

Internal storage weighs in at a modest 4GB, but the ZTE Grand X is equipped with a microSD slot - welcoming a further 32GB.

Interestingly, the ZTE Grand X will land with Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0), though it rocks the old-school button layout below the display (Menu, Home, Back and Search).

Furthermore, the ZTE Grand X boasts a relatively unspoiled slice of Ice Cream Sandwich. No ZTE Kanzi or nothin’.

The ZTE Grand X will be available through Phones 4U and Virgin Media at the beginning of next month. ZTE Grand X contract prices are all over the shop (as you’d expect), but you’ll be able to pick one up on Virgin Mobile PAYG for £190.

I saw this yesterday and actually, i'm reasonably impressed. It doesn't look terrible, processor is a little older but should still perform well, screen is a decent size/res combination (though i imagine the tech may be a little lackluster), has microSD and vanilla ICS.

with this and the Santa Clara in the same price bracket, mid-end phones seem to be getting pretty damned good specs for the price.
