ZTE Grand X lands early on Phones4U

ZTE Grand X lands early on Phones4UThose willing to step beyond the big names for their next smartphone upgrade may have had their interest piqued by talk of the ZTE Grand X – the supposedly “gaming-focused” big-screen Android 4.0 slugger landing next month.

Well scratch that, because thanks to Phones4U, next month is this month – in fact, you can get your Grand X on right now on free phone deals starting just the other side of £20.

Don't get me wrong – I know ZTE is a big name in the grand scheme of things, but let's face it – young Acne McChavister at your local high street phone shop isn't likely to have uttered the three letters particularly often before, in that or any order.

But that shouldn't detract from giving the Grand X some serious consideration. It may not quite be as gaming-focused as ZTE's marketing bods are suggesting, but it's not a bad mid-ranger for the price tag (sub-£200 on PAYG).

We're talking a 4.3in qHD touchscreen, 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 4GB of storage, 512MB of RAM, plus a 5-megapixel camera and a vanilla helping of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to help run it all.

Phones4U has the ZTE Grand X available on Vodafone, Orange or T-Mobile, though it seems for now you're restricted to contract only, with no PAYG option.

If you're looking to cough up £50 up front, you can have the Grand X on two-year deals starting as low as £15.50, while for a free phone you're talking £20.50 or £21 upwards, depending on provider.

Only partly related:
While everyone is a legal expert when it comes to Sammy vs Apple, we hear surprisingly little about the USA vs ZTE....
You know, the alleged breach of the embargo against Iran. Too hot a potato?

tbh i would still guide someone towards the sgs2 at that price.... better hardware other than the qhd screen... but same price or less....

Same price or less where? Or are you skewing it by comparing new and 2nd hand?

I have to agree with Treab here. The S2 is a much better device (with amazing developer support). Even if there's a couple of pounds a month in it, I'd still go for the S2.

I was looking at it more from a p&go aspect and it's slightly more than a few pounds there atm

matt101101 / MOD  Jul. 30, 2012 at 16:53

How much is an S2 nowadays?

Pondlife  Jul. 30, 2012 at 16:56

Last time I looked about £330

Really?! That's a lot for a phone which is well over a year old. Incl. VAT, I only paid £400 the week the S2 was released.
