It depends. If you want a phone which can play 3d games easily you have to get the xperia. If you want a good browsing experience the skate.
Experia Benefits- Games look brilliant especially with gamepad
4 inch screen
Disadvantages- Chunky
brightness low on screen
You would buy thisa phone for the playstation style pad and to play games. However specific playstation games are expensive.

The ZTE Skate offers pure Android 2.3 on a massive 4.3-inch screen for a very reasonable SIM-free price. An underpowered CPU and dodgy build quality are negatives, but the Skate's good qualities far outweigh its bad ones. However the cheap build may not be for you as it honestly does feel quite plasticky and is a fingerprint goddess. Also a 800mhz cpu can sometimes not cope with tasks. If you want a phone on android with a large screen and able to play and browse get the skate. But remember dont expect too much as it is below 90 quid right now. You get what you paid for.

is the experia play not good at surfing the internet? i currently have the san francisco so surely the experia play is better in every way? if you disregard pricing and screen size since the monte carlo's screen is fairly too big then wouldn't the experia play be better in every aspect? i mean, thats what i would of thought anyways. thanks for the response by the way.

Of the two, the Play is the better phone by a long way. The Monte Carlo (I assume you'd actually be getting the Orange branded one as the ZTE branded one is £200+), is a low end phone which ZTE tried to mask over by sticking a massive screen on it.

The Play isn't the best phone in the world by a long way, but it's better than the Monte Carlo.

Play is bulky and heavy. Keypad is useless unless you play games. Play is very hard to unlock - should buy SIM free one.
Everything else is better than ZTE Skate.

CTPAHHIK,
can't speak for the UK, but most Plays sold in Ireland by the networks are actually generic SE stock. Not branded, not sim-locked. They are so cheap and fly off of the shelves, the networks cannot be arsed fiddling with them.
I know 4 peeps who bought on in run-up to christmas, from 3 different networks - all simfree.

so what your saying is that irish people are cheapskates? explains why you keep borrowing vodafones mobiles..

:p

:p

I'm saving money, Treab. No idea what for, but I learned the hard way this year that "you never know" ;)
Now ON TOPIC

so what is the est android phone which is sub £160? i was interested in the xperia play but would want a user review but is there a better phone?
thanks for all the replies!

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:10

depends on usage... if its just for media/internet probably the monte carlo... if its for games the play is defo better...

personally though if you could i would get an extra 39.95 and get the nexus s or even the sony ericsson arc s.

xbox-360-elite  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:15

ill probably look at them now. what it is is that im interested in onlive on the phone as well and so far it is only compatible with these devices:
http://support.onlive.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/422/~/android-device-compatibility

but i could just get an ipod touch. is the xperia play awful at media/internet or is the monte carlo just better (regardless of pricing).thanks

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:16

:p neither are better really but the monte carlo has that larger screen which imo pips it over the play for media etc. the play just disappoints me really.

matt101101 / MOD  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:16

The Play isn't awful at media or the internet just the MC has a bigger screen (though a slightly lower resolution).

matt101101 / MOD  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:17

The Play disappointed me @ 400 quid but @ 150 it's a quality deal.

xbox-360-elite  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:18

im not that interested in the screen though as the monte carlo's screen is big and maybe bigger than what i want, i am content with a screen the same size or slighty smaller than the zte blade really.

xbox-360-elite  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:19

thanks again!

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:19

tbh if onlive works on the play it will probably run on the arc s just not tested as yet..

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:20

question bro. how old are you and would you consider a contract?

matt101101 / MOD  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:22

Or could you pay your parents each month to have one for you? (my daughters friends do it apparently).

xbox-360-elite  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:30

already have a sim card so just need the phone really as i am on a sim only contract as it is with the zte blade.

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:32

ahh right. then yeah.

in my order of recommendation... (going by your gaming interests)

Sony ericsson arc s
Nexus s
Play
Monte carlo...

xbox-360-elite  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:33

need to be certain that onlive works on the top 2 though

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:40

i cant guarantee it mate. but someone has it running on a desire s... so someones likely been able to root it on... matt can you check xda for me.

xbox-360-elite  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:45

yeah, i have seen apk's but with the xperia i would actually have buttons rather than the touchscreen but i guess you cant have it both ways. is the sony ericsson arc s or the nexus s significantly better or are they fairly even (in comparison to the xperia play)?

Treab  Dec. 28, 2011 at 00:55

i would say much better. the arc s is sonys feature smartphone released october i think. it is a very good phone. whereas the play can be a little 'buggy'.
